Here is his first diary entry for 2011.

A mild day 17+ hazy sunshine, spent three hours on site mainly looking for insects and spiders to photograph. A few spring flowers out, Red Dead Nettle, Hairy Bittercress, Dandelion, Daisy, Dog Violet, Shepard’s Purse, Common Chickweed, Ivy Speedwell, Common Field Speedwell, Round-leaved Water Crowfoot, Lesser Celendine, Blackthorn, Not many birds seen, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Dunnock, Robin, Wren, Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Magpie, Jay, Carrion Crow, Wood Pigeon, Nuthatch, Chiffchaff, Herring Gull.

Butterflies, Brimstone, Peacock, Comma.

Insects. Green Lacewing, 7 Spot Ladybird, several species of Weevils, Springtails, Earwig, Hawthorn Shield Bug, Merid Bug Kelidocerys resedae, Green Hopper Empoasca vitis, Hopper Cicadellidae. Tachyporys hypnorum, Common Flower Bug, Pond Skater, Whirligig Beetle, 2 other hoppers not yet identified.

Honey Bee, Buff Tailed Bee, Red Tailed Bee, SPIDERS .Clubiona corticalis. Anyphaena accentuate, Crab Spider Xysticus cristatus, crab Spider Philodromus cespitum, Wolf Spider Pardosa lugubris, Pisaura mirabilis, Tetragnatha Montana. Zilla diodia, Anelosimos species pos, Gongylidium rufipes pos.
