A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been charged over the deaths of the London couple killed in September’s horror crash at Sandbanks.

The Poole resident faces two counts of causing death by dangerous driving after Alan and Rochelle Bernard died in the Banks Road collision.

He will also face one charge of GBH and one count of |failing to provide a breath specimen.

A 60-year-old London woman was also badly injured in the crash, but survived.

The accused was first arrested in the hours after the crash and has been on bail since September. Dorset Police said the lengthy delay between the incident and the charges being brought was due to the “very serious and complex” nature of the investigation.

A police spokesman said: “This investigation involved the deaths of two people and a collision scene spread across a large area.

“Throughout the investigation we have kept the victims’ family up-to-date with developments.”

Mr and Mrs Bernard, from the Moor Park area of Middlesex, were walking back to their holiday home on Sandbanks with their female friend at around 10.30pm on September 11 last year.

They were involved in the collision with the £60,000 silver Mercedes close to the junction with Salter Road.

Mr Bernard, 53, and his 51-year-old wife were parents to three children – Jamie, Robert and Natasha, aged 17 to 27 – and were members of the Northwood United Synagogue.

Mr Bernard was managing director of home extension firm Plus Rooms, which had featured on TV renovation show Room For Improvement.

An inquest concluded the couple died as a result of multiple injuries sustained in the collision.

The charged driver is expected to appear before Bournemouth magistrates on Wednesday, March 30.
