LET’S all do the conga, let’s all do the conga. La la la la! – songwriter, performer and filmmaker Anthony Bygraves reckons he has the perfect way to celebrate British Tourism Week in Bournemouth.

Anthony, son of veteran entertainer Max Bygraves, is aiming to break the UK record for the longest conga dance this Saturday as part of Party on the Pier.

The celebrations commence at 11.30am with all ages being encouraged to take part in a world record attempt for the longest conga around Bournemouth Pier.

The Bournemouth mayor, local councillors and ‘King Konga’ will be present on the day with local bands and entertainers performing.

The record attempt will be followed by a live Latin American band and free Salsa lessons. Not to mention face painting and children’s entertainment.

The event is to be fronted by mystery showbusiness personalities from the children’s charity, Variety Club.

Bad Girls TV star Debra Stephenson could possibly be in attendance or it could include Anthony’s father, Max Bygraves who used to own a house in Alum Chine, Westbourne, although the comedian and singer is now soaking up the sunshine at his new address in New South Wales, Australia.

A light entertainment legend, Max, 86, launched his career as an entertainer after being demobbed from the RAF at the end of the Second World War.

Alongside young contemporaries like Eric Sykes and Frankie Howerd, he became part of the first generation of TV stars and by the mid 1950s was a household name.
