HAMWORTHY fire station has taken delivery of two new weapons in the fight against deliberate heath fires.
Volunteers with the community safety team at the Blandford Road station now have an expanded fleet of bikes to spread the message of fire safety.
Watch Manager Julian Lockwood from the Community Safety Task Team said: “The bikes will allow us to get out and reach areas that we have not been able to before,” he said.
Gaynor Mant, arson and youth diversion manager at Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, said more fires were deliberately started on heathland on lighter evenings and during school holidays.
