FOLLOWING a barnstorming show at Mr Kyps this week – and overwhelming demand for tickets for their theatre tour next year to mark the 20th anniversary of the seminal Levelling the Land album – The Levellers have announced five extra shows, including the O2 Academy, Bournemouth, on March 8.
With The Wonder Stuff in support, they’ll play the platinum-selling album in its entirety. In one fell swoop Levelling the Land propelled a group of disenfranchised outsiders from playing pubs in Brighton to headlining Glastonbury and the UK’s major concert arenas.
Suddenly dissent was flavour of the month as counter culture became mainstream and the disenfranchised discovered their voice.
With their entreaties to live your own life, The Levellers soundtracked this polarisation of society and, love it or loathe it, it seemed everyone had an opinion about Levelling the Land.
Given recent events, it’s an album that still has something to say about the world we live in.
* Tickets are due to go on sale from usual outlets on Tuesday.
