A CHILDREN’S centre forced to close after thieves stripped its roof of lead has reopened.
Dozens of families were affected by the closure of Wareham’s Children’s Centre after the lead thefts, last month, caused a partial roof collapse.
Rain water leaked through on to vital electrical equipment and left the centre unsafe to use.
However, now the roof has been fixed and the remaining lead replaced with fibreglass in a move to deter thieves.
The centre, in Streche Road, also has new ceilings, new carpets and has been redecorated.
The final repair bill for the centre is likely to run into thousands of pounds.
Dorset Police, who described the thefts as “understandably very upsetting”, have since visited surrounding homes and businesses to provide crime prevention advice.
