A man who has escaped from prison four times is back behind bars after his latest bid for freedom lasted just three days.

Andrew Barrios-Santana admitted escaping from Stanford open prison, Kent, on August 19.

Desmond Duffy, proecuting, told Bournemouth Crown Court Barrios-Santana was arrested at an address in Hawkwood Road, in the town.

Mr Duffy added: “He knew he wasn’t meant to do that but said he was going to hand himself in to Bournemouth police in the hope he would be sent to a prison nearer his family.”

Barrios-Santana, 38, who was serving a four-year sentence when he absconded, could have been eligible for release in February.

Robert Gray, defending, said Barrios-Santana left prison “for personal reasons,” adding: “He was at Devizes but was moved to Kent – he is a Dorset man and a long way from his friends and those who visit him. He realised he was going to be caught and was at large for three days.”

Mr Gray added Barrios-Santana, who has escaped from custody on three other occasions, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

Judge Samuel Wiggs jailed Barrios-Santana for a further three months.
