POLICE sealed off a large house yards from a Poole first school after discovering evidence of a possible gun shot.

Detectives and forensics officers attended the Penn Hill property, opposite Lilliput First School, after a woman called police, concerned about the welfare of a tenant who had unexpectedly left the house.

They have since spoken to the 29-year-old tenant, who is said to be safe and well.

Officers arrived at the house shortly after 7pm on Monday, June 28, to find signs of criminal damage to a glass window, possibly from a firearm.

Specialised forensics officers were called in to establish whether or not a gun had been discharged.

When parents arrived to drop their children off at school on Tuesday, June 29, they found the property sealed off with police tape.

The house is also close to the Church of the Holy Angels and the war memorial.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “I would like to reassure the public that this is a very unusual incident.

“The man has been spoken to and we have established that he is still safe and well.”

Detectives are eager to speak to anyone who may have witnessed any disturbance.

Officers believe the house was undamaged at 6.30pm on Friday, June 25.

The spokesman added: “Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw or heard any suspicious, unusual or out of the ordinary activity in the vicinity of the house since that time.”
