POLICE are hoping to crackdown on antisocial behaviour in Bournemouth and Poole during the summer by deploying three dedicated patrol cars to tackle the problem, focusing on Friday and Saturday nights.

The move comes just days after Dorset’s Chief Constable Martin Baker revealed how the force had dealt with nearly 48,000 reported incidents during last year alone.

Complaints ranged from animal-related incidents and abandoned vehicles to rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour with noise sparking 21 per cent more complaints and an 18 per cent rise in reports of malicious communications.

Officers in three patrol cars will concentrate on West Howe, Rossmore and Boscombe responding solely to antisocial behaviour incidents.

After a car is called out its crew will hand out leaflets providing details of the operation and how to contact Dorset Police.

Acting Chief Inspector Ashley Adams, who is leading the operation, said: “This approach has been successfully used by other police forces around the UK, resulting in a reduction of incidents of antisocial behaviour.

“Antisocial behaviour impacts most greatly on the quality of life of local communities.

“We hope to reduce this through targeting our dedicated resources throughout Bournemouth and Poole.

“Here officers will be able to support repeat victims of antisocial behaviour and quickly identify and deal with the offenders.”

He pledged to “take positive action against those who flout the law and cause problems to residents”.
