Hot on the heels of construction work on Poole’s iconic second lifting bridge come revised plans to fill the space in between.

Residents will be able to view new plans for a £100 million waterfront development in West Quay Road at a public exhibition in the town.

Neptune Consultants proposals for a mixed-use regeneration on a prominent town centre site between Poole Bridge and the Twin Sails Bridge can be seen at the Dolphin Shopping Centre on July 2 and 3.

Proposed is a “vibrant new urban quarter”, predominantly residential with a variety of different types of dwelling. There will be cafes, shops and restaurants opening out into a new pedestrian quayside.

Offices aimed at small companies and start-ups, new streets and spaces, landscaped and accessible to the public with two pedestrian friendly connections to the town centre, are included.

Early plans were seen by the public at an exhibition in Poole last autumn and the revised proposals are due to be presented to the council this summer.

“We have listened to people’s aspirations and ideas for the site and have taken feedback and comments on board to create our latest proposals,” said a spokesman for Neptune Consultants. “We are genuinely excited by the potential of the West Quay site, a key regeneration site in Poole. Together with our design team we have worked closely with the Borough of Poole towards the realisation of a dynamic, distinct new urban quarter that opens up the waterfront, integrates positively with Poole town and the old quay, and sets new standards in residential amenity and quality of the public realm.”

Developers will be on hand from 9am to 5pm on both days to comment on the plans. Neptune Consultants are an associate company of developer Castlethorn Construction, Bournemouth-based Terence O’Rourke Ltd, which is providing town planning expertise and architects HKR.

Work has just begun on the £37m Twin Sails Bridge and neighbouring waterfront site, West Quay Marina, received planning permission for a four-star hotel and spa, luxury flats and moorings last November.
