ROCK Choir, the largest popular contemporary choir in the world with more than 4,500, mainly female, current members, will release their debut album, Volume 1, on Monday.

The Choir, which is made up of members from all over the country whose voices are joined together in the studio, includes singers from Hampshire and with new Rock Choirs opening next month in Bournemouth, Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst, Volume 2 could well include more local people.

The choir was formed in 2005 by director Caroline Redman Lusher who wanted to develop her concept of introducing a glamorous and fun form of singing whilst caring for the emotional well-being of the UK’s public, introducing a life affirming experience for them using well known pop songs.

Bringing music and performance to communities across the country in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, Rock Choir choirs require no audition or even the ability to read music. There are now more than 150 choirs nationwide featuring members from all walks of life and varying degrees of experience.

Volume 1 is the first of a four album deal and reflects the power and spirit of Rock Choir, featuring all manner of famous tracks ranging from Motown favourites Can’t Hurry Love and Dancing In The Street to Amy Winehouse’s soulful hit Valerie.

The members of Rock Choir across the UK are attempting to get the album to number one in the charts ahead of new albums from Scissor Sisters and Kylie Minogue, which are being released around the same time. They are appealing to the public to help them achieve this by pre-ordering the album before Monday.

While Rock Choir and its members will not be making any money out of the record deal, the singers will be enjoying their new star status with album signings and performances.

There are free Rock Choir taster sessions at St Andrew's Church Parish Centre, Bournemouth (July 12, 13), Brockenhurst village hall (July 13) and Bramshow village hall, Lyndhurst (July 14).
