Introducing the show, the Priests promised a “sermon, raffle and collection-free zone”, much to the audience’s amusement.

Instead the three Fathers, who shot to fame in 2008 when they signed to Sony BMG, promised an evening of entertainment and they certainly delivered.

We were treated to an array of songs from the talented trio. Many were traditional Irish songs like Danny Boy but there were a few surprises, notably The Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby.

Other outstanding favourites included the classical tune Ave Maria and You Raise Me Up, the song made famous by American artist Josh Groban. Their faultless harmonies were simply remarkable but each performed a solo and proved their individual worth. The simplicity of the set enabled the audience to focus on the undoubted talent of Fathers Eugene O’Hagan, Martin O’Hagan and David Delargy. The three men stood centre stage and the Harmony ensemble accompanied them just behind. The band was led by Katie O’Connor and directed by Fergus Sheil.

At the end of a moving rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone, the audience was on its feet and cheering for more.

Judging from the reaction, the Priests will be back.

Camilla Kerslake also joined the Priests. The 21-year-old, who was the first artist to sign to Future Management – the new label from Take That’s Gary Barlow – wowed the crowd with performances including How Do I Keep From Singing?
