Three old and diseased beech trees in the scenic avenue at Kingston Lacy, near Wimborne are to be felled.

Work started yesterday and is expected to take four to five days with temporary traffic controls on the B3082 while it is being carried out.

“We know how much people love this place but unfortunately we have no choice but to remove some of these trees,” said Nigel Chalk, the National Trust’s gardens and countryside manager, who has lived on the estate all his life. It is likely that removal and replanting will continue for a further 30 years.
