A TEENAGER has died following a crash on the Ferndown bypass at the weekend.

The 19-year-old, from Poole, was walking towards Canford Bottom on the A31 when he was involved in a collision with a Smart car travelling towards Ringwood at around 5am on Saturday.

The incident happened at the Holt turn-off between the Canford Bottom roundabout and the police station roundabout.

The teenager died at the scene and the 58-year-old driver of the Smart car was seriously hurt.

The driver who was from Weymouth, was taken to Poole Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the teenager walking along the bypass or who witnessed the collision to contact them on 01202 222222.

The road was closed off between the two roundabouts.

Two other serious accidents on Dorset’s roads led to drivers being hospitalised.

A 31-year-old Wareham man ended up in hospital after being pulled from his Rover MGF following a road traffic accident on the Upton bypass at 1.10am on Saturday morning.

The Rover MGF was in collision with the central reservation on the A35.

Moments later a Rover 216 driven by a man from Axminster in Devon was in collision with the Rover MGF.

Fire crews from Poole and Bere Regis attended the incident which occurred just past the Bakers Arms roundabout.

The Rover MGF driver was placed on a spinal board and taken to Poole Hospital. The second driver was uninjured.

And two people were seriously injured in a crash on the A338 at 2.55pm on Saturday.

The collision involving a Polo and a Kia occurred at Blashford between Ringwood and Fordingbridge.

The road was closed off at Ringwood at the junction with the A31 and also at the junction with Ellingham Drove.

Police said later the injuries were not life-threatening.The incident led to long traffic delays.
