DANNY Warwick believes the “wake-up call” Buccaneers received at Weymouth earlier this month can spur them to title success at Plymouth tonight.

Bournemouth Castle Cover take a seemingly unassailable 28-point lead into the second leg of the National League title play-off final (7.30pm).

But with broken thigh victim Kyle Newman sidelined and Mark Baseby facing a late fitness test on foot and knee injuries, Warwick insisted “the job is not done yet”.

He added: “We almost threw it away at Weymouth in the semi-final.

“We won 63-30 at home but got into trouble there before getting through.

“That was a real wake-up call, but we’ve already won at Plymouth this year and will be going to win again.

“It’s there to be raced for. We’ll go with the confidence that we are halfway there but the job still has to be finished.”

Plymouth chairman Mike Bowden, who brings in guest Adam Allott for injured Mark Simmonds, hasn’t given up hope of overturning their big deficit.

Bowden said: “Bournemouth were stronger at reserve in the first leg. They scored 22 points and our reserves only scored one.

“But we were 30 points behind Oxford a few years ago and came back and beat them on aggregate, so hopefully we can do it against Bournemouth.”

Warwick is determined to lift the first league title of his eight-year career after being drafted into Bournemouth’s team in May.

He said: “I dearly want to do it for my hometown promotion.

“I won the British League Cup with Poole in 2003 but missed the latter stages through injury.

“Apart from that, the only other trophy I’ve won is the Knockout Cup with Buccaneers earlier this month.”

If Mark Baseby is declared unfit, his place would go to Buccaneers number eight John Resch with Andrew Aldridge moving to reserve.

Aaron Baseby’s classy 11 paid 17 haul in Bournemouth’s 62-34 first leg triumph was only the second time since Poole’s formation in 1948 that one of the Dorset promotion’s riders had got six bonus points in a match.

Tony Langdon bagged 12 paid 18 for Pirates at home to Newcastle in the National League in 1990.

David Biles (three times), Gary Allan, Langdon, Tom Knudsen, Steve Schofield and guest Jan Staechmann have all notched five bonus points for Poole.

Plymouth: 1 Allott (guest), 2 Starke, 3 Bates, 4 Stephens, 5 Hughes, 6 Pickard, 7 Gough.

Buccaneers: 1 Herne, 2 Warwick, 3 R/r for Newman, 4 M Baseby, 5 Hart, 6 Aldridge, 7 A Baseby, 8 Resch.
