A SECTION of the A31 westbound was partially closed for four and a half hours after a collision between a car and a bicycle at rush hour.

A red Nissan Terrano car, driven by a 71-year-old man, and a bicycle were in collision on the westbound carriageway between Azalia roundabout in Ferndown and Palmerstone roundabout at 5.55pm yesterday (Tuesday October 27).

Police are making enquiries to try and identify the cyclist, a middle aged man who suffered serious injuries, who was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment, and to inform next of kin what happened.

Collision investigators and traffic police examined the scene.

The road was reopened just before 10.30pm.
