AS Sharpay would say, it was FABULOUS!

The all-singing, all-dancing High School Musical 2 brought the feel-good factor to the Mayflower last night providing the perfect start to half term for all Disney fans.

Les Dennis was the big name, playing the role of stressed out Mr Fulton, but it was the younger and less experienced members of the cast who stole the show.

GMTV's Search for Troy contest cast newcomer Liam Doyle in the main role as Troy Bolton. And his chemistry with co-star Nikki Mae, a very believeable Gabriella Montez, set the tone for a fun show, bursting with talent.

It’s less than 18 months since 34,000 people saw the first High School Musical Live on Stage production at the Southampton theatre. And the sequel's certain to attract huge crowds over the next fortnight with a total of 16 performances.

HSM 2 sees the East High kids spending summer at the Lava Springs Country Club with spoiled Sharpay still trying to get her hands on basketball star Troy.

There are some fights along the way but, in true High School Musical style, everyone lives happily ever after at the end.

The enthusiastic young audience, many dressed as HSM characters, sang along to hits including You Are The Music In Me and Fabulous.

And some were even lucky enough to go home with beach balls and fabulously sparkling streamers which burst from the staf during the finale. The show runs until Saturday November 7 with tickets costing between £19 and £34.50. Concessions for under 16s, students and groups are available for some performances.
