A POPULAR Bournemouth care worker managed to fulfil her dream when she wed her long-time sweetheart five weeks before she died of cancer.

Nicky Mogg, 41, proposed to Mark Jones after she was diagnosed with lymphoma last autumn.

She underwent six months of intensive chemotherapy treatment, and was given a boost when her boss Angela Fraser and colleague Abby Russell did a sponsored tandem skydive for her last year.

Her stepfather, Leslie Crowe, said: “She went into remission, but it only lasted six weeks, then the cancer came back with a vengeance.”

He said Nicky and Mark, of Winton, had been planning to get married at the end of this year, but they obtained a special licence for their garden ceremony on August 22.

Mr Crowe said: “She knew she had the cancer and she wanted to be married before anything happened. They had been together for 12 years.

“We only had two days to plan. Everything seemed to fall into place. The registrar came to the house.

“It was a beautiful wedding. She got her wish and she loved it. Afterwards she went to bed for a few hours.”

In the evening Nicky and Mark hosted a reception at the Winton Liberal Club for about 100 family and friends.

Mr Crowe said: “She had a few dances, adding: “They didn’t have time for a honeymoon – she started to slip away. She enjoyed life so much, but it was cut short.”

The former Summerbee School pupil leaves two teenage daughters and two stepsons.

Nicky’s funeral takes place at Kinson Cemetery on Monday.
