A CAMPAIGNING mum from Blandford who is close to changing the law after being forced to wait two years to bury her son is urging people to support a fundraising evening for victims of violence.

Cathy Franklin, whose two-year-old son, Ryan, was killed by his father, Lee Kahir, in 2002, is now a volunteer worker for victim support charity, Mamaa.

The group is holding a spring ball at Bournemouth’s Carrington House Hotel next May. Cathy said money raised from the event would support a range of projects to help victims and their families.

“We’re championing a cause for a victim’s retreat with a conference hall, bedrooms, gardens, internet access and 24-hour counselling to help them through the grief.

“We are also desperate for offices. All our work is done from home at the moment and we need bases across the country,” said Cathy.

Entertainment, a tombola, a raffle, and a talk from Mamaa’s joint founder, Lyn Costello, are planned for the evening. Tickets cost £45 each, or £400 for tables of 10 people. The Carrington House Hotel is offering discounts on rooms for Mamaa’s guests, said Kathy.
