A CLERICAL error meant Dodd’s usual Easter visit to the Pavilion didn’t happen this year threatening to break his 50 year tradition of performing annually here.

Thankfully it was rescheduled and the capacity audience was treated to a hearty serving of Doddy’s tickle tonic – a show lasting five and a half hours!

Despite some asthmatic coughing at the outset with quips, “I knew I should have paid the Congestion Charge” he was in tip-top form, bursting with energy and exuberance, clearly fired up by the roar of the crowd.

Arriving on stage banging a big drum, brandishing two “newly fluffed” tickling sticks he played the crazed buffoon with sticky-up hair, sticky-out teeth, wide expressive eyes and infectious smile – instantly winning over the audience.

No one works an audience better than Ken, bouncing jokes off individuals near the front but still playing to the back rows.

His fine vocals saw the audience singing along, from Happiness to his tear-jerking Absent Friends and he gave us the funniest, heart-warming ventriloquism with Dickie Mint.
