SCHOOL children in Blandford will swap school uniform for sports kit on Thursday (21) in a bid to highlight the plight of the town’s threatened leisure centre.

Students at schools in the Blandford Schools Network are all taking part in the event to show support for the Blandford Leisure Centre Action Group (BLCAG).

Sally Wilson, the head teacher of The Blandford School, said all schools in the network were concerned by the threat of closure, raised by the withdrawal of an annual £250,000 subsidy next March by the district council.

Where will young people be able to access swimming and leisure facilities if the Centre closes? We ask parents and members of the public in Blandford and our very rural catchment areas to make their views known and vigorously support BLCAG,” said Mrs Wilson.

District council staff will be joining Blandford students in the dress down day, but unlike youngsters, those swapping ties for trainers will be asked for a small donation to the funds of BLCAG.
