FANS of East Dorset’s Beech Avenue are being invited to record their memories of the tree-lined thoroughfare – in cyberspace.
As more work is done to prolong the life of the 200-year-old trees lining a section of the B3082 near Kingston Lacy House, a new page has been added to the National Trust’s website for tributes to the organic landmark.
Temporary traffic lights will go up while vital work is carried out to remove deadwood and diseased limbs from some of the avenue’s beeches.
More than 20 trees were cut down last year after being diagnosed with an untreatable parasite, but no further fellings are planned in the latest round of maintenance work.
All trees removed will be replaced in the long-term with Hornbeam – a species which trust staff say is better suited to modern environmental conditions.
