THE Daily Echo's parent company Newsquest has launched its search to find the best mother in the area.

Mum of the Year will recognise the hard work of mums who juggle many commitments and still find time to help others – click the link below to enter.

The award, created in partnership with parenting website Netmums and siblu holidays, will help to highlight many of the extra activities undertaken by mums to support their local community.

A panel of judges will review every entry and choose this area’s Mum of the Year after nominations close on December 12. Regional winners from across the UK will go forward to a vote to find the nation’s Mum of the Year.

Along with the title of the south’s Mum of the Year, the winner will receive a family vacation to France with siblu holidays, to be taken at a choice of outstanding holiday parcs in 2009.

Siobhan Freegard, who co-founded Netmums while raising her own family, says: “In many ways, the work mums do in our communities is the foundation of our whole society. But because it isn't seen as having a commercial value, our effort is often left unrecognised by the real world.

“The idea for Mum of the Year was born from frustration at the celebrity version of this award, which rewards style over substance. If you know a mum who is a real role model and who inspires those around them, we want to hear from you.”
