Another early start in Fort Augustus, awoke to blackbird song, sunshine and heavy showers.
Paul and Adrian prepared their supplies and water. They carry plenty of carbohydrates to boost their energy.
They each have three litres of water on their bikes and it is recommended that they drink approx 500ml per hour during endurance cycling.
We all visited the Caledonian Canal locks prior to commencing our journey. A section of five locks and a very sturdy swing bridge at the entrance of Loch Ness.
We were all very excited at the prospect of this leg of the journey as the views of the mountains, we were told, are spectacular.
Paul and Adrian started the day feeling extremely positive, they both felt that this would be a truly memorable experience and were very enthusiastic. The weather however, couldn't have been more unkind, heavy showers and strong winds featured heavily until lunch time.
We all met at lunchtime having skirted Ben Nevis and the banks of Lock Linnie. The showers continued eventually dying out an hour later.
The rain made the ride uncomfortable, but the many rainbows we viewed were a bonus.
Words cannot describe the stunning scenery around Glencoe, beautiful mountains, lochs and waterfalls. Paul and Adrian cycled at a leisurely pace, as they wanted to savour every moment of this spectacular scenery in this part of the West Highland Way.
We are all feeling a little homesick and we all want to share this experience with our families. We would recommend everyone visits this beautiful area at some point.
You would NOT be disappointed!!
This afternoon the weather improves, the rain stopped and sunshine prevailed, bathing the cyclists in glorious rays as they descended into Crianlarich. We are staying in another Scottish Youth Hostel, everyone has been so friendly.
Paul and Adrian met a fellow cyclist today who was riding from JOG to Glasgow for charity. He only had three functioning gears on his bike and one rear brake!
Both cyclists are fit and well. Adrian has a slight stiff left knee, but it is not hampering his determination to enjoy every moment of this truly memorable experience.
As support today Natasha and Annie enjoyed a leisurely drive through the mountains. I don't know how many times we said "Just look at that!"
