MARCO Rose was pleased with the impact his substitutions made in the 3-0 victory over Sturm Graz as Bournemouth were able to kill the game off late on at Dean Court last night.

Rose introduced James Hill for Adam Smith just after the hour mark, before replacing Marcus Tavernier, Tyler Adams and Evanilson with Justin Kluivert, Ryan Christie and Rayan with 20 minutes to play.

The latter got himself on the scoresheet within five minutes of his introduction to make it 2-0, before Hill won Bournemouth a stoppage-time penalty which Álvaro Rodríguez converted to make it three.

Rose was also impressed with the five players who came into the starting line-up as he rotated his side amid an intense schedule in October and November.

Rose told the Daily Echo about the players who started: “They did well.

“Doaky [Ben Gannon-Doak] did well. Julio [Soler] did well. Bafó [Diakité] did well.

“And Álvaro had really three good weeks during the national break.

“We started to increase his ability to run more, to compete in duels, and he made really good steps.

“You could see when he came here that he needs time to adapt, but he is on a good way, he just has to continue.

“And all the lads, Lew [Cook], great game today, and it's important for me that we have a competition, that everyone shows that he is able to play in this team and everyone has to play well.

“Therefore we need fit players, healthy players, and that's why it's good that the other injured guys come back.”

On his substitutions, Rose continued: “That's what we missed in a couple of games before, to use the momentum if the game is getting more open, if the opponent is getting tired, if we are getting tired, to score a second goal to close the game.

“And that's what we did really well today.

“Of course, we had the Sunderland game in our minds, and that's why it was important to have good substitutions.”
