An artist is raising funds for charity through an exhibition of more than 70 watercolours.

Mike Jeffries, a Dorset-based watercolourist and former chair of Poole Arts Trust, is showcasing his work at Lighthouse Poole in a new exhibition titled Light and Movement.

The show runs in the main gallery from September 3 until September 26.

Mr Jeffries said: "Being an architect, I like to paint buildings and street scenes but there is a variety of subjects in the exhibition which I hope will appeal to a wide cross section of viewers."

Known for his impressionist landscapes, lively street scenes, and transport-themed artwork, Mr Jeffries has paintings displayed in homes across the UK and around the world.

He said: "I paint what I like.

"Finding a subject is more complicated than you might think so I take lots of photos and sketches and maybe only one or two end up being painted."

Since relocating from London to Poole around 30 years ago, he has expanded his focus to marine scenes and broader landscapes.

The exhibition supports Lighthouse Poole and Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, both of which Mr Jeffries has a long-standing connection with.

He and his wife are patrons of Lewis Manning Hospice, and he described charity as beginning "at the doorstep."

Tickets and more information can be found at the Lighthouse Poole website or by calling 01202 280000.
