It will remain in place until October 5, although Dorset Council has granted an order that could keep the closure in place until March 2028.
Anyone who drives a vehicle on the closed section could be fined up to £1,000.
A signposted pedestrian diversion will be provided.
The official roadworks notice, published by Dorset Council, cites the need to provide safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to road users.
