MARCO Rose was happy with the overall performance in defeat against Mainz, but he said the team can "still improve in everything" ahead of their season opener next Sunday.
Bournemouth brought their pre-season to a close with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Rose’s former club, in a tight game at the Mewa Arena.
Sheraldo Becker gave Mainz the lead, before Evanilson equalised before half time.
A William Böving goal 12 minutes from time gave the hosts the victory as Bournemouth completed their programme of friendlies before they travel to Manchester City next Sunday.
Reflecting on the game, Rose told the Daily Echo: "Narrow, like you said.
"So it means, we started top. I mean, the first ten minutes, it was just a question of time that we score our goal and we were very dominant and then we conceded a too simple goal after an own corner kick transition situation.
"And there we had to behave much, much better.
"But we struggled some minutes, then we came back, we scored a nice equaliser.
"I think we had in the second half two, three times the chance to win the game, and it was a tight game.
"At the end, we did one mistake more than the opponent, and we conceded the goal, and that's why we lost. It feels not good, but I'm okay with the performance.
"And most important thing, no more injuries.
"That was the most important thing and yeah, now the preseason is done and we are looking forward to starting against City."
While Bournemouth’s press was, on the whole, excellent, there were a couple of occasions where Mainz were able to play through the Cherries as the timing of it was not as precise as needed.
Rose admitted there was still plenty to work on before the trip to City.
"The timing in some situations was not perfect," he said.
"But as you said, our pressing was top again. And that's what we have to maintain. I think it was a really tough opponent, mostly deep.
"They were waiting for transition situations and then you need to be patient.
"But on the other side, you want to score goals, you want to make them trouble. And we did it in a lot of situations really well.
"We can do it better so we can improve in everything, in possession, out of possession, in transition.
"This goal we scored was really nice.
"So yeah, we just have to continue to work and get out results, the time we work on these things."
