Bournemouth Electric Football Club (BEFC) has put in a planning application to upgrade its main pitch and the area around it at Broadway Lane.
This club started back in 1935 as a social spot for Southern Electricity Board staff, and now caters to more than 12 teams including men’s, women’s, and veterans’ teams.
It currently has a full-size adult grass football pitch, a training pitch, and changing rooms, as well as car parking and a clubhouse.
The club wants to swap its current grass pitch for a more sturdy artificial one.
A planning statement said: “The new facilities would enable the football club to offer a consistent, high-quality playing surface, with less reliance on the weather and reduced maintenance costs.”
Alongside this, BEFC also wants to put in new perimeter fencing, a run-off area, and better lighting by installing eight 15m-high light columns around the perimeter of the pitch.
The club believe the artificial pitch will also help cut down maintenance costs and get rid of the need to rent other places for practice and games.
The plans are in consultation until August 28 under planning application number P/26/03710/FUL
