African Soul Rebels returns to Lighthouse Poole on October 3

African Soul Rebels, an acclaimed celebration of African music and activism, returns to Lighthouse Poole for the first time since 2011 on Saturday, October 3.

The event will feature performances from Les Amazones d’Afrique, Malawian artist Gasper Nali, and 2023 Glastonbury Emerging Talent winner N’famady Kouyaté.

John Blakeley, music programmer at Lighthouse, said: "I'm really excited for the opportunity to host these incredible artists in Poole.

"Bringing the African Soul Rebels tour back to Poole has been a dream for a long time.

"This isn’t just a gig, it’s the revival of a movement and to have Les Amazons D'Afrique, Gasper Nali and N’famady Kouyaté together will be a joyous celebration of African music to remember!"

Formed in Mali in 2014 by Mamani Keïta, Oumou Sangaré, and Mariam Doumbia, Les Amazones d’Afrique is a West African supergroup advocating for women’s rights through music.

Their sound blends pan-African styles with contemporary pop, hip-hop, and electronic influences.

Malawian musician Gasper Nali performs with the babatoni, a three-metre-long, one-string bass guitar he builds himself.

His viral performances have earned him international attention.

N’famady Kouyaté, originally from Guinea and now based in Wales, blends traditional West African sounds with Western influences.

He plays the balafon, a wooden West African xylophone, and comes from a family of griot musicians.

African Soul Rebels previously visited Poole between 2005 and 2011, featuring legends such as Salif Keita, Baaba Maal, and Seun Kuti.
