Crowds lined the streets this weekend as the lively and colourful Swanage Carnival began, bringing the community together for more than 100 years.
The eight-day festival, one of the UK’s largest charity events, opened with an aerobatic display by Team Raven over Swanage Bay and a flypast by a 1942 Dakota aircraft.
Organisers expect thousands of visitors at hundreds of events, from art competitions and beach yoga to a silent disco, live music and traditional carnival displays.
Swanage Carnival said on Facebook: "Thanks to your generous support, our streets came alive with intricate float designs, lively performances, and an incredible amount of community spirit, making the procession a truly unforgettable celebration for everyone."
According to organisers, the Swanage Regatta & Carnival goes back to the mid 1800’s when the first sailing regatta was held in Swanage Bay.
Several years later, in the early 1900’s, a carnival was held to celebrate the finale of the sailing regatta, hence the formation of the Regatta & Carnival.
They added: "We'd also like to give a massive shout-out to our amazing team of volunteers!
"From months of planning to keeping everything running smoothly on the day, their dedication, hard work and commitment helped ensure the procession was safe, enjoyable and successful for participants and spectators alike.
"We simply couldn't do it without you!
"Together, you've helped make this year's procession one to remember!"
