Christchurch footpath to be temporarily closed from August 4

The path, identified as E61/1, runs from its intersection with Avon Buildings to Mill Road and will be temporarily closed from August 4 to January 3, 2027.

It will be off-limits to both pedestrians and vehicles as workers carry out rail bridge maintenance works.

Network Rail is responsible for these maintenance works.

During this period, emergency services will still have access.

Residents can also reach their properties as long as the site is safe.

For those affected, a diversion route has been put in place via Avon Buildings, Bargates, Fairmile Road, and Mill Road, and vice versa.

Delays or overruns caused by adverse weather conditions could see these arrangements extended to a maximum of 18 months.

Approval from the Secretary of State may be sought for extended modifications if necessary.
