Dorset bridleways, footpaths and roads temporarily closed

Dorset Council has issued a number of temporary traffic regulations affecting public roads and rights of way.

From July 1, a series of footpath, bridleway, and byway closures came into force across Horton and Verwood as National Grid carries out essential works on power lines.

The affected routes that are temporarily closed include:

• Footpath E46/9, Horton (575 metres, from SU0731 06920 to SU08101 06481)
• Bridleway E54/22, Verwood (675 metres, from SU08884 07419 to SU08592 06879 – an alternative route will be provided)
• Bridleway E46/11, Horton (1.25 kilometres, from SU07967 05700 to SU07729 06918)
• Footpath E46/10, Horton (1,000 metres, from SU06894 06118 to SU07824 06344)
• Bridleway E46/7, Horton (500 metres, from SU07728 06922 to SU08155 06679)
• Bridleway E54/42, Verwood (350 metres, from SU08282 07006 to SU08160 06675)
• Restricted Byway E54/21, Horton (350 metres, from SU08284 07010 to SU08596 06877)
• Bridleway E54/23, Verwood (600 metres, from SU08887 07421 to SU09178 06935 – an alternative route will be provided)
• Bridleway E54/41, Verwood (110 metres, from SU10108 07605 to SU10138 07513 – an alternative route will be provided)

The orders for these closures will remain in place for 26 weeks, though works are expected to be completed by September 27, with the exception of Bridleway E54/41, Verwood, which is anticipated to be completed by November 15, 2026.

In Bryanston, Footpath E5/3 (from ST878057 to ST882057, approximately 430 metres) will remain closed until January 1, 2028, or until the completion of the works, whichever is the earlier.

The closure, which has been extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport, is to facilitate residential development at Land North East of Lower Bryanston Farm.

Temporary closure in advance of a permanent diversion is proposed to be provided within the residential scheme.

Several road closures have also been announced to allow for resurfacing works.

The Upton Bypass will be closed from July 20 to July 31.

Sections of the B3075 will be closed for surface dressing works in the following locations and dates:

• East Morden: July 21 to August 4
• Sturminster Marshall and Louse Lane, Spetisbury: July 22 to August 5

All closures are subject to on-site signage indicating the affected sections.

A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Any person who uses or permits the use of a vehicle in contravention of the notice will be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £1,000.
