A fearsome dinosaur will set the scene for a Dorset museum's major public celebration this summer.

The Etches Collection Museum of Jurassic Marine Life in Kimmeridge will mark its 10th anniversary with The Big Jurassic Birthday Bash, its largest-ever public event, on Saturday, August 22.

Steve Etches MBE, founder of The Etches Collection, said: "It's hard to believe ten years have passed since we opened the museum.

"What started as a personal collection has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined.

"This event is our way of celebrating everything we have achieved over the last decade and the location that makes us so special.”

The museum, which opened in 2016, has welcomed visitors from around the world and supported important scientific research.

Activities will take place throughout Kimmeridge, inviting visitors to explore the village and take part in activities.

This year also marks the 25th anniversaries of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the Kimmeridge Wild Seas Centre.

Traders and artists will set up under the towering presence of Big Sara, the UK’s largest allosaur and the only real dinosaur on display in Dorset.

Tickets are available now through The Etches Collection's online shop.

Further event announcements will be shared in the coming months.
