Dorset is expected to have one of the oldest populations in the UK by 2036.
New analysis from mobility specialist Opera Beds, based on ONS data, shows the county is likely to see 36.9 per cent of its residents aged 65 and over by that time, which would make Dorset the fourth oldest region in the UK by proportion of older people.
In raw numbers, this equates to around 152,195 people out of a predicted total population of 412,226.
Barbara Franks, occupational therapist at Opera Beds, said: "As more people live longer, we’re seeing a growing need for support that helps people stay independent at home for as long as possible.

"It’s often not one major change that makes the difference, but a series of smaller, practical adjustments that support day-to-day comfort and mobility."
North Norfolk tops the list, where nearly 40 per cent of residents are expected to be over 65 by 2036.
Other areas in the top three include Rother and East Lindsey, both of which are coastal or rural locations associated with retirement living.
Ms Franks said: "When people can move safely and comfortably around their home, it can help them stay confident, reduce the risk of falls, and continue their usual routines for longer."
Additionally, people aged 90 and above are among the fastest-growing age groups in the UK, with a population growth of more than 50 per cent in the past 20 years.
