On Sunday, April 27 my husband and I went to Castlepoint Shopping Centre.

We took his car – a Land Rover, because my car is too small to hold bags of garden soil.

I am 84 and disabled, so we parked in a disabled bay.

We were only in the store for approximately half an hour.

When we came back to the car we found we had been issued with a £100 parking ticket (I had forgotten to take my Blue Badge out of my car).

My fault – yes.

So I found the parking attendant and explained.

He told me to phone the number on the back of the ticket.

When we got home I did phone the number, but it was an automated line, so I couldn’t speak to anyone.

So I have written a letter to the company Group Nexus explaining my mistake and asking for my fine to be cancelled.

I haven’t heard back yet.

But my point is: where were the signs telling people where they can and where they can’t park?

Everyone thinks it’s free to park at Castlepoint – so be warned!

I am an 84 year old disabled pensioner living on my OAP pension.
