A LIFETIME collection of intricately crafted model ships and military dioramas will go under the hammer in Wimborne next month.

Southampton-based model maker Barry Sharman, who began building models aged 15, has spent decades creating highly detailed, scratch-built pieces renowned within modelling circles.

His work, shaped by extensive research and precision craftsmanship, has been exhibited at major events including the IPMS Telford International Show, where it drew praise for its striking realism.

The sale at Elliott’s Auctioneers will feature standout items such as a cutaway model of the Canadian Corvette HMCS Agassiz, showcasing the vessel’s internal structure. Also included are pieces from Sharman’s Mulberry Harbour project and naval models including HMS Sir Kay and HMS Rattlesnake.

Alongside the ships, the auction will offer a wide selection of military vehicles and large-scale dioramas, all built from scratch.

Much of the collection has remained privately held until now. Sharman’s family said their priority is for the models to find new owners who will value the dedication behind them.

The auction takes place on Saturday, May 9, with viewing on May 8, at Elliott’s Auctioneers in Stone Lane Industrial Estate, Wimborne.
