Climbing the height of Everest in a single day sounds impossible, but one man has done it on Dorset soil.

Richard O'Connor, an endurance athlete from Poole and of ROC PT and Madmule Trail, completed the "Everesting" challenge at the obelisk hill near Ulwell in Swanage on Saturday, March 7.

The feat meant climbing a Dorset hill repeatedly until reaching 8,848 metres of elevation—the height of Mount Everest.

Mr O'Connor said: "This wasn’t just about the elevation; it was about the power of choice and the strength of our community.

"When things got difficult, it was the support from the people around me—and the knowledge that we were raising vital funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance—that kept the engine running."

The project gained considerable momentum in the lead-up to the event, with local athletes and supporters rallying to contribute to the fundraising goal, which has raised over £2,500 for Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.

Mr O'Connor finished the "Everesting" challenge in just under 18 hours, pushing through fatigue and cold conditions with the help of disciplined planning and nutrition.

He said: "Suffering is for those not in a position of choice.

"I choose these challenges to show that with preparation and a supportive community, we can push beyond our perceived limits."
