An endurance runner in Dorset is taking on a challenge equivalent to climbing Mount Everest by foot in a single effort to raise money for an air ambulance charity.

Richard O’Connor, founder of Madmule Trail, will tackle an 'Everesting' challenge at the obelisk hill near Ulwell in Swanage starting in the early hours of Saturday, March 7.

He will climb and descend the hill roughly 89 times—covering approximately 51 miles and a total elevation gain of 8,848 metres (29,029ft)—to raise funds for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA).

Mr O’Connor said: "Over the last 10 years of Madmule, I’ve run countless miles on the Jurassic Coast and across Dorset.

"Fortunately, I’ve never had to call for emergency assistance, but as trail runners, we head out into remote areas with an unconscious 'comfort blanket' knowing that if something goes wrong, the air ambulance is there.

"They provide life-saving critical care and are currently working to raise £1 million for a second helicopter.

"I wanted to give something back to a service that allows us to take the risks we do."

The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance attended 2,954 incidents last year, with each mission costing approximately £3,500.

Supporters are invited to join Mr O’Connor for a few repetitions of the climb as part of a ‘mini H.I.L.L challenge.’
