An 11-year-old writer has been named the winner of a countywide children’s writing competition.

Rokaya, of Dorchester Middle School, was awarded first place in the seventh annual Story House children’s writing competition.

The competition is a collaboration between DOMVS and Lord Julian Fellowes and Lady Fellowes.

Polly Greenway, chief executive of DOMVS, said: "To see Story House reach its seventh year, with more schools taking part than ever before, is incredibly rewarding.

"It is a privilege to provide a platform where young writers feel celebrated and confident in their creativity.

"We are hugely thankful to Lord and Lady Fellowes for their continued encouragement and involvement, which is so valued by the children and schools, and we’re delighted that Story House is now firmly a cornerstone of Dorset’s creative education calendar."

The competition attracted the highest number of entries and participating schools since it began.

Ivy, aged 8, of Radipole Primary School, was named runner-up, while highly commended awards went to William, 11, of Perrott Hill, Ebby, 10, of St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, and Esme, 10, of Dunbury Church of England Academy.

Designed for children aged 5 to 12, this year’s stories began with a prompt written by Lord Fellowes: "I will always remember how I felt in that moment."
