EMERGENCY services launched a late-night search after reports that a person may have entered the water near Poole Old Lifting Bridge.

Poole coastguard teams were called out at 9.52 pm on Monday, December 30, following a request from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre to assist Dorset Police with an investigation at the Poole Old Lifting Bridge.

HM Coastguard deployed two search teams to carry out thorough checks of the surrounding quayside and port areas, working alongside RNLI Poole’s inshore lifeboat and police marine officers.

During the search, the RNLI lifeboat identified an area of interest in the water, prompting coastguard teams to divert and investigate further.

However, following detailed checks and consultation with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, no sign of anyone in the water was found.

After all searches were completed and no concerns identified, all emergency service teams were stood down and returned to their respective stations.

A spokesperson for coastguard said: "After consultation with the JRCC and nothing untoward found, on completing all investigation and searches, indicating a person being in the water, our team and all HMCG assets were thanked and stood down and returned to their respective stations, pending any additional information and a re-tasking if required."
