Southbourne Coastguard had a busy week, responding to three callouts within six days, one of which required assistance for a rescue helicopter.

In the evening of Friday, November 14 HM Southbourne coastguard was requested to assist the ambulance service with evacuating a male casualty from the beach to an awaiting ambulance.

On arrival, coastguard rescue officers liaised with the ambulance crew, helped transfer the casualty safely into the ambulance stretcher and carried him from the beach to the ambulance for onward care.

The following evening it was requested to assist in the search for a high-risk missing person in the Barton-on-Sea area.

Coastguard rescue teams carried out a search near Naish, working alongside other resources including coastguard rescue helicopter 375 and Lymington coastguard rescue team, until information was received that the missing person had been located safely inland by the police.

On Thursday, November 20 the coastguard assisted Poole coastguard rescue team after reports of a casualty at the entrance to Boscombe Pier.

On arrival, the coastguard teams liaised with the ambulance crew and confirmed the casualty was already in the care of paramedics in the back of an ambulance, and coastguard teams were stood down and returned to station.

If you are ever worried about someone’s safety on or near the coast, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
