SEARCHES for a ‘high risk missing person’ were carried out by land and air by Coastguards with the assistance of Dorset Police.

On Tuesday, July 22 around 11.32pm, Poole Coastguard rescue team was requested by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre alongside Southbourne Coastguard to assist Dorset Police with a search for a high risk missing person.

The team carried searches of the coastal areas from Boscombe Pier to Fisherman's walk.

The team was also assisted by Lymington Coastguard and HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R175.

During the searches, a possible sighting was reported by the helicopter, subsequently the Coastguards confirmed it was called to an individual at Toft Zig Zag.

This individual, however, was not the missing person.

The team then relocated to Hengistbury Head with areas along the shore from Double Dyke to Long Groyne and then Mudeford Sandbanks South searched by Poole's search team.

After more than five hours of searching, all teams were stood down pending further information for future re-tasking.

A spokesperson from Poole coastguard rescue team: “We were thanked by our HM Coastguard - Dorset, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Duty SCOO S9C (Senior Coastal Operations Officer) for our attendance and then returned to our station.”
