HM Coastguard has launched a summer safety campaign to protect beachgoers.
The Coast Clever initiative aims to raise awareness of coastal dangers such as cliff falls, tidal cut-offs, offshore winds and mud.
This comes as the UK experiences unusually warm weather following the driest spring in a century.
The Met Office has predicted a higher likelihood of a hot summer, with increased risk of heatwaves.
Chief coastguard Pat O'Callaghan said: "Each year, HM Coastguard responds to reports of people in danger at the coast, but many of these situations can be avoided.
"We’d like the public to enjoy the warmer weather and our wonderful coastline, but they need to be aware of the risks."
The Water Incident Database (WAID) reveals that most drownings in the past three years occurred in July, mainly involving males aged 20-29.
Last year, the coastguard dealt with more than 600 tidal cut-off incidents.
The coastguard advises beach visitors to carry a fully charged mobile phone and inform others of their whereabouts during their trip.
Checking tide times and weather conditions before arrival is also recommended.
Other tips include avoiding cliff edges and bases, steering clear of mud and refraining from water sports when there's an offshore wind.
In emergencies, visitors should dial 999 and request the coastguard.
