PLANS are in place to use nearly £500,000 of active travel funding for two new pedestrian crossings.

The government awarded BCP Council £478,063 in November to put towards benefiting pedestrians or cyclists.

Power to decide what the money is to be spent on is likely to be delegated to BCP Council’s director of planning and transport, in consultation with cabinet members Andy Hadley and Rich Herrett.

A council report has recommended the money should be put towards two signalised crossings: one in Richmond Park Road north of Springbourne roundabout and the other in Alder Road, near Recreation Round, both in Bournemouth.

The spending now needs to be agreed upon.

Last week, it was revealed that BCP Council had been allocated a further £2 million for its active travel scheme.

Cllr Hadley said: “This money will help to deliver projects facilitating safer, greener and healthier ways of travelling, including helping children getting to school.”

The council said they will share more details of how the funding will be invested in the coming months.
