OXYGEN was maintained to Poole Hospital patients after a faulty pipe prompted an emergency response yesterday evening.
Police closed Longfleet Road outside the hospital as well as the car park while the fire service responded to reports of an oxygen pipe venting.
A fire service spokeswoman said reports came in shortly before 4pm on Saturday, February 15 and three fire engines were sent.
She added that a 50 metre cordon was placed in the hospital grounds and Longfleet Road.
A University Hospitals Dorset spokesman said last night: “Public and patient safety is our main priority and we are grateful for the support of our emergency services in managing this outage.
“We are still fixing the problem, but in the meantime we are able to maintain oxygen supply to our patients.
“The multi-storey car park at Poole Hospital is being managed by our fire service. Public parking is not available but colleagues should report there and be directed to where they can park.
“Thank you to all colleagues who have been working hard to fix the issue with our oxygen supply and put mitigations in place to help us maintain safe services.”
Ted Sansom said: “Thank you to the security guard at the entrance to the car park from the main concourse.
“He remained cheerful throughout and kept us informed with all the information he had, despite provocation from some people.”
