FOOTAGE of weapons being used to hack down a door in West Howe has prompted residents to voice their concerns about gang violence in the area.

The attack, captured on camera and posted to social media, shows someone hacking down a door with a zombie style knife. The video also shows someone handling a handgun.

A West Howe resident said the latest incident is not isolated and is part of an ongoing dispute between two gangs in the area.

The resident said: “The situation is outrageous.

“The issues involving these people have been going on for over two years, and it seems that nothing is being done.

“We all suspect that if nothing is done there will be a death in the area.”

At 12.49am on Sunday, October 27, Dorset Police received a report of criminal damage to a window and a front door of an address at Teal Close in Bournemouth.

Dorset Police said officers conducted house to house CCTV enquiries following the most recent criminal damage however no arrests have been made at this time.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team are aware and working with partner agencies, including BCP Council, following reports of anti-social behaviour.

“We know the impact this type of behaviour can have on a community, and we will be continuing to carry out patrols in the area and would encourage anyone to contact them with information or concerns.”

Kinson ward councillors Michelle Dower and Cameron Adams say they are actively involved in working with residents and the council to address the issue of gang violence in the area.

Cllr Cameron Adams said: “For the residents it’s disgraceful. People have been keeping diary sheets of specific incidents and have been living in terror for years.”

Cllr Dower highlighted the importance of residents keeping diary sheets to prompt the police to continue to investigate the issues with ASB.

Police and councillors are holding a community contact meeting at the Henry Brown Youth Centre on November 5 for residents to voice their concerns.

The MP for Bournemouth West, Jessica Toale, said it is “appalling that that communities in Bournemouth West are subjected to violent scenes like this.”

She said: “People deserve to feel safe in their own homes and know that their children are not watching violent crime filmed locally and shared on social media.

“I’ve been in contact with both Dorset Police, which is investigating, with police continuing patrols locally and urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“Addressing anti-social behaviour and violent crime is a priority both locally and nationally and requires a multi-agency approach - myself and the government, the police, council and local councillors, schools and communities.”

A BCP Spokesperson said: “We are working closely with Dorset Police on this case.

“We have undertaken considerable work in the community, including joint visits with the police, and ensured that our three ‘Days of Action’ engagement events offered the opportunity for residents to speak directly to our Anti-Social Behaviour team.

“We will take any necessary and proportionate action in collaboration with the police.”
