A SECTION of Hengistbury Head beach has been closed as coastal defence works begin.
Work has commenced today, September 23, to replace and strengthen two timber groynes at the beach.
The works are expected to take six to eight weeks, with completion scheduled for November, depending on weather and tides.
During this time, a section of the beach will be closed to the public for safety reasons.
BCP Council has asked beachgoers to follow a boardwalk diversion route.
The local authority added: “The new groynes will be the same length as the existing groynes but a hybrid of timber and rock structures, so you may also see rock movements along the beach.”
The works at Hengistbury Head beach are being carried out as part of the Poole Bay Beach Management Scheme, a 17-year plan designed to protect the area's coastal frontages.
