AN AWARD winning Turkish Restaurant is closing its doors after its owner died.
Baraca restaurant in Bournemouth is closing following the first anniversary of its owner and chef, Aynur Kurt.
Aynur, who died on September 26, 2023, at the age of 52, was celebrated not only for her “remarkable culinary talent” but also for her “warmth, selflessness, and vibrant spirit.”
A year after her passing, the family made the difficult decision to close Baraca Restaurant after 23 years of successful and well-established family business.
Aynur’s family said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Baraca, a place that embodied Aynur’s love for food, community, and life.
“Her incredible energy and passion touched everyone who walked through the doors. As much as we have tried to carry her legacy forward, this chapter must come to a close.
“We thank all of our loyal customers, friends, and supporters who have made Baraca what it is today.”
Baraca was an independent restaurant in Bournemouth specializing in authentic Turkish cuisine.
Known for its vibrant atmosphere and exceptional dishes, Baraca won numerous accolades, including the Casual Dining Gold Award at the Dorset Tourism Awards in 2023.
Chef Aynur Kurt, the “heart and soul” of Baraca, passed away in September 2023, leaving behind a legacy of culinary excellence and community.
In a tribute to the late chef, her family said: “We will miss her so so much and are even more heartbroken.
“She brought smiles to everyone’s faces as she was so joyful and full of energy.
“She was the best, most loving mother and wife. We cannot imagine our life without her but as the caring and loving woman she is, she would have wanted us all to live our life to the fullest.”
They added: “Baraca’s closing marks the end of an era for Bournemouth’s food scene, where it had become a local favourite for both residents and visitors alike.
"Aynur’s spirit, dedication, and culinary innovation will be remembered for years to come.”
