FIVE phases of roadworks in Sandbanks will bring disruption to the peninsula lasting until next year.
SGN’s contractors JDT Utilities Limited will begin the lengthy work as part of its gas network replacement scheme from mid-September.
Varying traffic management will be needed to ensure everybody is safe, SGN has said.
Bradley Barlow, spokesman for the gas company, said: “To support the ferry operations and Brownsea Island, we've planned this work around their shutdown periods for maintenance.”
Between Monday, September 23 and Friday, November 1, work in Brownsea Road, Seacombe Road, Grasmere Road and Salter Road will see parking suspended.
And then for phase two between Monday, November 4 to Friday, November 15, the workmen will be at the ferry slipway. The loading bay outside the shops will be suspended.
Phase three will also start on November 4 but is expected to last until January 17 and will see lane closures and parking suspension in Banks Road and Panorama Road, around the peninsula.
Once work is complete in Banks Road and Panorama Road, temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place in Banks Road between its junction with Panorama Road to outside Rumsey Holiday Homes.
Finally, once works are complete outside the businesses, there will be temporary two-way and three-way traffic lights along Banks Road between its junction with the car park roundabout and outside 85 Banks Road.
Bradley Barlow said: “We’ll keep residents informed of access arrangements as the work progresses.
“We appreciate our work and traffic management may be disruptive for residents, road users and those driving to and from the ferry.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience these urgent replacement works may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.”
Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the project.
Bus services will be affected because of the work, with stops suspended until January 2025.
